WEATHERTOP COLLECTION - SWORD OF SAM (2009) - Prop replica for United Cutlery's Lord of the Rings Weapons and Armor line. I supervised the prop replicas for over fifty items for UC's LOTR line, replicated directly from the Weta Workshop props. From Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Tolkien's book, The Fellowship of the Ring. This is the short sword Strider gives Sam at Weathertop in Peter Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring film. We had envisioned a line of “Weathertop” Hobbit swords since the first film came out, and this is the first sword in that collection. They will make a nice set with Sting, if all four can get made. Though these were only in the films and did not appear in the books, they were fan favorites. These four swords each have a unique look, though Sam's looks Elvish to me. It may be a Gondorian sword. It is not made clear in the film where Strider acquired these. We were not able to acquire the actual prop for this one, so it had to be reproduced from prop photos only, and screen grabs from the film. It is a pain doing it this way, but we got a fairly accurate replica nevertheless. It is scheduled for a 2009 release.
